STATE TOURNAMENT BOUND!!!
18′S & 16′s Earn Berths
MARLBORO, MA-The Junior Bruins begin play at the state tournament tonight (Friday, November 7) at the New England Sports Center. Both the programs 16U and 18U teams earned a berth at the tournament, although each took a different path.
The 16′s, the only full season team that qualified, are back for the third straight year. In each of the programs’ three years they were eligible the team has earned their way in. In 2012 the B’s advanced to the semi finals while last year they made it to the title game. The 16′s play in both the USPHL and the Mass Select League. Their finish in the Mass Select League standings gained them entry into the tournament.
The 16′s drew the Boch Blazers, Neponset Valley Rats and the BU Terriers in round robin play.
The 18′s, also eligible for just the third time, make their second appearance. They advanced to the 2012 semi finals in their lone appearance. The 18′s, who play exclusively in the USPHL had to square off with the Walpole Express in a “play in” game to make the big tournament. The B’s dispatched of the Express by a 5-1 score on October 29th in a game in which they held the Express to just 10 shots.
The 18′s bring a
19-5-2-2 record into the weekend. “We have only lost one game in the last 9 we have played and that was a triple OT shootout so the team is playing well,” coach Chris Masters commented. “We will have our hands full this weekend but if we play well and execute we have a chance to make a good run.”
The 18′s play the GBL Bruins, Cape Code Whalers and Boston Bulldogs in round robin play.
